Inter Agency Relationships

SENCO responsibility
There is a wide range of Educational Support Services, which are available to advise and provide resources. The Social Services and Heath Authority can also become involved in the welfare of a child. These different Agencies have different procedures and preferred ways of contact. The speed of response to any request made to them can be affected if we do not approach them through the correct channels. It is essential, therefore, that any such requests are made by the SENCO.
In the absence of the SENCO (and the Headteacher) there is a list of agencies including names and telephone numbers on the notice board in the Deputyheads room.

Parent Liaison
Everyones responsibility
The Code of Practice emphasises the relationship between the school and parents and how this has a crucial bearing on the progress pupils make, and in particular, those with special needs.
Parents are entitled to be informed when we identify their child as having special needs, including At Risk. Under legislation, we are obliged to inform both parents (whenever possible) even if one does not live with the child.
Parents need to be informed and made aware of the type of difficulty their child is experiencing, and ways in which they can support their child.
Parents need to be involved in the assessment and review of their childs progress at each stage.
Parents are also entitled to request that their child is put on the special needs register at At Risk.
Parents are entitled to discuss concerns regarding their child with the class teacher, SENCO or Headteacher.

Transition between schools
For pupils who join our school during the year, records will be requested. The time taken for these record to enter school depends on the previous school.
Any child moving between schools on School Action Plus and above, will be picked up by outside agency consultants.
Pupils who enter school on a particular stage on the special needs register will remain on that stage until a review has been carried out at the end of the term they join.
Year 6 pupils on the special needs register before transfer to secondary school, a meeting is arranged so that special needs information can be discussed face to face. In addition all records are sent to the secondary school regarding special needs pupils at the end of July.
Year 2 pupils on the special needs register a meeting is arranged for the SENCO of the feeder school to discuss issues regarding pupils with special needs with our SENCO.
