Only the best is good enough

WILLIAM BARCROFT SCHOOL VISION

The following writing is a piece of collaborative work in progress. It is co-authored by staff currently working in different roles in the school, from teaching assistants, teachers and senior managers. It has been shared with and adopted by our governors.

Anxious of getting trapped in the urgency of today's business we set ourselves the important task of sketching out a day in the life of the school in five year's time.

This vision acts as our beacon. It helps us set our management plan that describes how we get from where we are now to where we know we want to be. It also helps us put today's tasks into perspective.

As a whole staff we have already worked up the full job descriptions for family learning co-ordinator, pupil learning co-ordinator and staff learning co-ordinator. In our re-organisation of management responsibilities we have allocated the first two as TLRs and the last as the key delegated role for our deputy headteacher.

This vision acts as our invitation to others. If you share our ambition then work with us - as a member of staff - as a governor - or as a partner.

Headteacher

You can plan your journey only when you have a pretty good idea of your destination.
When a leader makes a decision it moves the organisation from one point to another. The question is whether or not that changed position is moving the organisation in the desired direction.
A good leader has a clear sense of destination (often called a vision) and will make today's decisions based on the extent to which they move the organisation towards that destination. These are the steps on the pathway.
A weak leader will look to the past and make today's decisions based on the extent to which they keep as close to that known past as possible.
