Healthy Schools Initiative
WBJS recognises the
important connection between a healthy lifestyle and a pupil’s ability
to learn effectively and achieve high standards in school. We are
committed to promote family health by increasing knowledge of healthy
food and their impact on both health and the environment.
- WBJS has received the Healthy Schools Award.
We have a Healthy Schools Action Plan in place.
- We have free fruit delivered to school twice a
week. This is distributed throughout the whole school.
- We have changed our school menu to include
healthier options. (see attached menu)
- A School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) has
been set up in school in conjunction with the School Council.
- A water cooler has been installed in the hall
to encourage pupils to drink chilled water.
- A Food in Schools Audit has been completed
detailing healthier lunch and tuck shop options that pupils would
like to eat. Samples have been tried at the tuck shop sessions.
- The dining hall environment is being improved
gradually. Posters advertising health are displayed, a table of the
week has been introduced and a new display will be implemented
within the next few weeks showing a healthier lifestyle.
- WBJS have applied for a government grant in
order to fund a breakfast club to begin in September 2007.
- Food for Fitness team have been into school
to deliver a 4 week cookery course to 10 children in Year 5. This
proved to be a huge success with pupils and parents. This course
will be delivered by 2 members of staff on a rolling programme
starting in September 2007.
- Pupils at WBJS now do 2 hours of PE per week
as set out in Government regulations.
- WBJS also took part in the Cleethorpes Healthy
Schools event at the Memorial Hall – Pupils from Y6 demonstrated
their skills at ‘Wake up – Shake up’.(see the pictures by choosing
