General information and advice

In addition to the Corporate Health and Safety Policy of North East Lincolnshire Council, the Learning and Child Care Directorate has specific aims both for the staff working in our own establishments, visiting private dwellings and other locations and also for pupils, students, clients, visitors, contractors and all persons who may have occasion to use or visit our establishments. This Policy Statement applies to both schools and Directorate staff.
To establish and maintain a safe and healthy environment throughout the Directorate by means of appropriate risk assessments.
To establish and maintain safe working procedures for all employees.
To create a culture where staff feel listened to and will feel able to raise concerns or give ideas to improve health and safety in their working environment
To make arrangements for ensuring safety and minimising the risks to health in connection with the use, handling, storage and transport of articles and substances.
To ensure the provision of sufficient information, instruction and supervision to enable all employees to avoid hazards and contribute positively to their own safety and health at work.
To ensure that all employees have access to suitable training which is sufficient to ensure their safety and health at work.
To maintain a safe and healthy place of work with safe access and exit.
To formulate effective procedures for use in case of fire and/or other emergency to evacuate the work area(s).
To lay down procedures to be followed in the event of accidents, incidents or near misses, whether or not these result in injury.
To provide and maintain adequate welfare facilities.
To have a programme of risk assessment throughout all Learning and Child Cares activities, including premises not under the control of Learning and Child Care.
To ensure the health and safety of all persons who may be affected by the work activities of Learning and Child Care employees is secured by the provision of relevant information and the development of effective safe working practices and procedures.
To ensure effective consultation with employees and Safety Representatives on health and safety issues where appropriate.
To supplement this policy with guidance notes, bulletins etc as necessary.
