Y3 plans for October 2008

Literacy

Dialogue and plays - Read and discuss stories, identifying the different characters and voices by using dramatised reading and puppets. Identify the features and conventions of written dialogue, demonstrate and then write dialogue. Compare this with a play based on the same story. Write and perform play scripts based on familiar stories. Turn the story of Red Riding Hood into a playscript.

        

Poetry - Text – Cat in the Window Poem & 10 things in a wizards pocket poem. Work collaboratively in paired and whole class activities, write a list poem,  know how to set out lines of a poem, use describing words to improve sentences, identify specific words within a text. Sentence objective – to practice their skills on writing basis sentences. Thrass objective – to continue to learn the vowel part of the Thrasschart. Comprehension objective – To answer literal questions based on a piece on the text.

Numeracy

Mental: Use counting up to find a small difference, add or subtract 9,19,29 or 11,21,31, rounding and compensating for addition and subtraction. Recognise and use the pattern, Add a 2 digit number to a multiple of 10. Main - Number - write measures as decimal numbers Measures - Read to the nearest division and half division scales that are numbered or partially numbered. Use the information to measure and draw to a suitable degree of accuracy. Know relationship between mm and cm, m and km, g and kg, l and ml. Choose and use appropriate measurements to estimate, measure and record. Shape - revise names and properties of 2D shapes,  revise properties and names of 3D solids.

 

Mental: recall multiplication facts from the 10 and 100 times table, recall multiplication facts from the 4 and 5 times table. Main: Number - identify one half and one quarter fractions, share groups of objects into halves and quarters.

Science

Characteristics of Materials -  plan how to find out which pair of tights is most stretchy, making a fair comparison, decide what to change, what to keep the same and what to measure, make careful measurements of length, to present measurements as a bar chart and to draw conclusions.

ICT

Word Processing - Insert a picture and add text

Humanities

Them here then  -  Find out about lives locally  in the past. Formulate questions for their grandparents to find out about their lives in the past, turn their questions in to a survey to take home and fill in for homework. 

Art

Investigating pattern - Make welcome banner for celebration day.

CDT

Join two pieces of card. Make the people who live in the houses they have made already. Join card body parts with split pins

Music

explore descriptive sounds - Sea slugs and jellyfish, Seagulls then discuss. How effective is the music in describing the seagulls? What might the raspberry sound represent?

RE

Christianity - What is in a church that makes it special - cross, altar, font, pulpit and lectern.

French Speaking and Listening - accurate pronunciation, recognising spoken words and phrases.
PSCHE

People who help us - Use gov.net kids to investigate how the police work within the community.

PE

Gymnastics - Pathways - move along pathways with a partner
