Term 1 - Fiction and Poetry The children will read extracts from novels, stories and poems by significant children's writers they will also use play scripts and concrete poetry. |

Term 3 - Fiction and Poetry The children will read extracts from novels, stories and poems from a variety of cultures and traditions. They will also read, rehearse and modify performance of poetry. |

Term 1 - Non Fiction The children will read extracts which recount events, activities, visits; observational records and news reports. they will also read and evaluate instructional texts. |

Term 3 - Fiction and Poetry The children will read extracts from significant children's authors and poets to make comparisons of how different authors treat the same themes. |

Term 2 - Non Fiction The children will recognise how arguments are constructed, the features of balanced written arguments and understand the characteristic features of official language. |
Term 3 - Non Fiction The children will use explanations linked to work from other subjects to appraise a text quickly and effectively; to retrieve information and evaluate its value. |
