Only the best is good enough

School Savings Bank with The Yorkshire Bank

June 2007

We’re excited to announce that we are going to be the first school in the area to run a bank in school that will allow the children to save.  The bank is being overseen by The Yorkshire Bank and that is where the account will be held, but the children will run the bank in school and this is where the ‘banking days’ will take place.

Every Wednesday morning the School Bank will be opened and the children will come with their Account Card and whatever money that they wish to deposit.  At a set time in the morning each class will go to the ‘School Bank’ to have their money collected and recorded ready to go into their account.  They will receive interest on whatever money that they have in their account (Approx 4.50%) and with your guidance they can also visit the Yorkshire Bank to deposit more money or even with draw.

We feel that this is a great benefit to the children as it will help them to manage money in a correct but fun way.  You may even like to use it if you are taking your child on holiday so that they can save their pocket money in the account ready to spend on holiday.  Anything from £1 pocket money to birthday money can be brought in to deposit at the ‘School Bank’ but we must stress that any money brought in is the responsibility of your child and not of the school or class teacher!  (The process of your child bringing the money in is all part of learning to look after things as well as learning about financial management).

NOW FOR THE IMPORTANT BIT

To enable Yorkshire bank to set up your child’s account they need the following forms of Identification for yourself and your child.  We are going to ask you to come in after school with your child and with the following information on the correct day stated.  The forms of identification that we need are;

1.  FOR YOU – To prove you are who you say you are!

ü       Current Full Valid Passport

ü       Current UK Photo Based Driving Licence

2.  FOR YOU – To prove where you live!

ü       Recent Utility Bill

This needs to be recent and be the address at which the child lives.

3.  FOR YOUR CHILD – To prove they are who you say they are!

ü       Birth Certificate

ü       NHS Medical Card

ü       Passport

If finding these is a problem then please contact me to find out what other forms of Identification are acceptable.  Once you have found the forms of identification that you need then you will need to bring them along at the following date and time;

Year 3 Child – Monday 18th June between 3:15pm and 4:15pm

Year 4 Child – Tuesday 19th June between 3:15pm and 4:15pm

Year 5 Child – Wednesday 20th June between 3:15pm and 4:15pm

If your child already has a Bank Account at another branch they can still open this new school one as it will be easier for them to deposit money into it, as it will be open in school time.  I would really love every child to take part in this and I’d appreciate your help and understanding on this project as I am sure you will agree it is one that will benefit the children greatly!
